The humanitarian situation for people in South Sudan remains dire. By the end of the year, the number of people in need reached an all-time high of 8.3 million, compared to 7.2 million and 7.5 million at the same time in 2018 and 2019, respectively. In this regard, the humanitarian context continues to be characterized by conflict and sub-national violence, a recurrence of major floods and the impacts of COVID-19. A legacy of violence, political tensions and underdevelopment additionally continues to push more people to vulnerability and, at the same time, undermine humanitarian efforts.
